Pinching the bridge of her nose, Zahra takes a deep breath in, closing her eyes before letting the tension seep out of her body with a sigh. She's lost.[break][break]

The call to action in investigating a strange formation amongst a farmer's crops has been answered by more than one person, but few were as foolhardy as Luka. Instead of skirting the perimeter, looking for clues and making an educated guess about the phenomenon, she dove right into the strange shape carved into a field of corn, following branching patterns at random until she'd gotten herself well and truly turned around.[break][break]

"Wow," she muses to the Eevee that trots by her side. "This maize is like a maze!"[break][break]

Her voice is muffled by the rows of corn that surround her, but the rustling of several golden stalks is likely to catch the eye. But Luka herself is too short to be seen over the corn. Instead, it's a bubblegum pink lock of hair that draws the eye, gravity-defying and curled into the vague shape of a heart. It bobs along with her as she traipses through the corn, drawing the eye of anyone curious enough to pay it any mind.

From screaming children to rampaging pokemon to literal alien invasions, Zahra's sure that she's seen enough in her lifetime to never be taken aback again. Or at least, calm enough to take a step back and reassess the situation before her - A pink heart that just barely floats above the sea of maize, a feature unlike any other pokemon seen before.

"Cmon Ollie." She hums, skimming through the rows of golden stalks just to catch a glimpse of this mysterious being. And well...

There could be anything lurking amidst the corn.[break][break]

The farmer who posted the job thinks it might be aliens. Most might scoff, but Luka actually doesn't doubt it. The Poipole who had broken into her apartment a few months ago is a testament that anything's possible, and is also the reason she's carrying a jar of grape jelly around with her. Aliens like that kind of thing, apparently.[break][break]

Of course, it might just be a rampaging Pokemon. Or local hooligans, or Rockets. Or a death cult of weird and creepy children who worship the corn.[break][break]

Anything goes![break][break]

The point is that Luka is rather jumpy, and when a voice calls out to her she jolts about a foot in the air. But her imagination hasn't prepared her for the mundane— just a pretty woman with bubblegum locks to match her own.[break][break]

"Ah...m-maybe," Luka replies once her heart settles, though the pet name doesn't help in calming her. Her ears burn slightly. "Just a little! I was just, um...j-just trying to figure out what did this to the corn, but I may have gotten a little turned around..."

Easy there, sweet cheeks. Didn't mean to startle you." Laughing softly, Zahra offers her hand to the smaller girl, shifting her weight just slightly as Ollie barrels past her calves. "Thought I was some sort of wild pokemon, didja?"

The Absol whines a little as he begins to shove his snout into Luka's hand, taking in her scent before looking to her with a tilt of his head. If Luka so much as shows any indication that she's comfortable with his presence, Ollie will begin trotting circles around her and occasionally nudge her in greeting.

"Name's Zahra, Zahra Belsky. And that affectionate bugger's Ollie. Who might you be, киса?"

Luka nods, slightly abashed, and starts to toy with one end of her braid. "A pokemon, or...an alien? Sorry, I know that sounds silly," she admits with a breezy laugh. "It's not, um, i-it's not that common to see pretty girls walking out of the corn, right?"[break][break]

Such honey drenched words might sound insincere from anyone else's lips. With Luka, it's almost painfully earnest. She smiles again, a little more at ease, and runs a hand through the curious Absol's soft fur whenever he's close enough.[break][break]

"My name is Luka," she continues, "киса." Though far from a native speaker Luka's tone and accent is perfect— a natural mimic. She loves the way foreign words feel on her tongue.[break][break]

"P-pardon me for asking...but are you here to investigate the crop circle as well?"

A smile tugs at the ends of her lips as she resists the urge to laugh, her fingers reaching to pluck a stray maize tassel from Luka's hair. Heaven knows she likes listening to others try her mother tongue, adoring every little slip-up they make as they try their best to untangle the words.

"And you're right, hun. I'm supposed to be out here exorcising demons of sorts... seems I'm lacking the whole ghostly encounters though." Prodding fun at the whole ranger shenanigans is somewhat a pasttime of hers, providing a spark of amusement from the absolute mundanity of her work if nothing else. "Who knows? Could really just be another case of the whole 'Beheeyems abducting Miltanks' all over again."

"Ehh..." The warning, though well meant and certainly needed, just makes Luka blush even more. The loose-lipped complements cease for now, but only because she's too tongue tied and flustered to continue.[break][break]

That carnation hue only deepens when Zahra plucks a stray leaf from her hair, fingers fleetingly soft against her curls. Luka stares, but out of more than just admiration. Up close the woman looks incredibly familiar. Had they met somewhere before? It's been quite a while now, but Luka can vaguely remember an afternoon spent at the sauna with Martín del Mar and @emi...[break][break]

But their voices aren't the same. Once heard, always remembered— and she's never heard this voice before.[break][break]

"Mmm..." Back to the task at hand. I've been walking around for a while, but it just keeps going around and around! I can't figure out what kind of pattern it is, i-if it's even anything at all..." She purses her lips, considering. "Do you really think it could be something supernatural? Or is it just Beheeyem? L-like, really an alien sort of thing?"[break][break]

This whole situation is too complicated for her to process. "I don't know why, but I feel like...I don't know. Like searching around right now is kind of pointless? Whatever it is, it seems like it came out at night, so..."
